Prayers and Sacraments

Because we crave order

Prayers

Our prayers are flexible and evolving, serving as guidelines that can be adapted to personal preferences and circumstances. Below are examples of prayers commonly used by our community:

Prayer for Newborns Welcome a child into the world with this heartfelt prayer:

"Thank you, God, for the gift of life and the new life you have blessed us with. We will work diligently to ensure this child is welcomed into a nurturing and supportive environment. We accept the responsibility of providing both physical and psychological nourishment, ensuring adherence to the Godnostic Principles and Common Sense Guidelines. The beauty of new life is unparalleled, a testament to Your existence. We are grateful and honored by this blessing."

Prayer for Marriage Celebrate the union of two people with this sacred prayer:

"Welcome, everyone, who has come today to witness the union of this man and woman. This joyful occasion marks a sacrament that will guide their journey together, aligned with the Godnostic Principles and Common Sense Guidelines. Today, this couple pledges to love and cherish one another, embracing both the joys and challenges that lie ahead. May those present support them in difficult times and celebrate their many happy moments.

This union is not just a merging of lives but the creation of new possibilities—for each other, their families, and the life they build together. Marriage requires effort, intention, and an enduring commitment. Effort—because marriage is a partnership that demands work and adjustment. Intention—to prioritize the well-being of each other and the family. Endless—because the journey of love and growth never stops.

Let us now ask if anyone has objections. If so, let us remind them of the time and effort already invested and encourage silence.

Do you, {insert name}, take {insert name} to be your lawful wedded spouse, to share your life openly, in sickness and health, in joy and sorrow, in hardship and ease, cherishing and loving one another as long as you both shall live?

Let us exchange vows and rings as symbols of commitment, concluding with the presentation of gifts that symbolize the wishes of family and friends for the couple's journey. By the authority vested in me, I now pronounce you married. You may kiss your spouse.

May this couple find wisdom in cherishing beautiful moments and strength in overcoming adversities. Amen."

Prayer for Funerals Bid farewell to a loved one with this reflective prayer:

"As we gather to say goodbye to our friend and relative, we thank God for the life lived, whether short or long. Godnostics trust that God welcomes all His creations into the afterlife. Though we cannot fully know what lies beyond, we are comforted by the belief that our loved one is now in God's hands. Let us reflect on the life they lived and share memories that honor their presence among us. Amen."

Prayer for Awareness Guide a young person on their journey of faith and purpose:

"Today, we present our son/daughter with the awareness of fulfilling the space created by innate faith. Follow your heart and faith as you navigate life. Faith is not always immediate, but at some point, you will witness God’s greatness. Choose your path wisely, whether Godnostic or another belief, and stay true to the moral principles instilled within you. Treasure happiness and distinguish it from fleeting pleasures. We love you and thank God for this opportunity to share this moment. Amen."

Daily Prayer Offer gratitude and purpose each day:

"God, I thank You for nourishment, family, friends, and faith. I’m grateful for unseen blessings essential to my well-being and for the setbacks that may lead to growth. Forgive me for any failings, and guide me to analyze and correct them. I pledge to help others, foster positivity, and create an atmosphere of fulfillment for all. Amen."

Prayer of Thanks Express gratitude for life’s gifts:

"God, thank You for the earth and universe. Thank You for granting free will and the ability to discern right from wrong. I’m grateful for the capacity to love and experience the emotions that make life so profound. Above all, thank You for providing the tools to achieve happiness, the ultimate goal of existence. Amen."

Godnostic Sacraments

The following sacraments are observed to support the growth and well-being of our families:

Sacrament of Welcome to Life This celebration, held approximately one month after a child’s birth, welcomes the newborn with a prayer and gifts to support their upbringing. Family and cultural traditions are encouraged to make this event meaningful.

Sacrament of Awareness At age 15, children are presented with the Godnostic Book or access to resources on various faiths. This sacrament empowers them to explore their beliefs and make informed decisions about their spiritual path. Family and cultural traditions enrich this milestone.

Sacrament of Marriage. Marriage is celebrated traditionally, with a family member or chosen officiant reciting the marriage prayer. Cultural customs are embraced, provided they align with the Godnostic Principles and Common Sense Guidelines.
